Adults Who Parallel Play

Learning team dynamics becomes more and more important than individual contribution.

One of the smartest engineers I ever met told me he doesn't think he'll work with other people on a team ever again thanks to the invention of coding assistants. To him, he already has his own innumerable team. I'll explain why I think this is wrong at the end.

  • Post-docs and grad students don't care to write code that others use.
  • Claude over people
  • Parallel play instead of real play
  • Most importantly, not understanding its power. With the points above, you can already see issues with not working together. But the most important reason is the outcome when it works well, even iff the issues above are notwithstanding: working together is super additive.
